Given that Zelda games are still being made and are still so popular, it's hardly surprising that someone would want to honor the original release by doing their own version of it in a different game entirely. Introducing the world to Link, Nintendo's green-clothed Hylian adventurer has become a mascot on par with the likes of Mario and Sonic. However, 1986's Zelda is just as much an influential open-world game as Minecraft, possibly even more so due to it birthing one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time. ![]() Much of this is down to the near-endless creative potential it affords players. Known for being a game with relaxing mining and exploration features, Mojang's open-world sandbox release became one of the biggest IPs in gaming history and is still selling in droves to this day. While Minecraft is sort of a modern game, it definitely takes visual cues from the retro days of the industry, so someone has managed to turn the blocky title into the original The Legend of Zelda. ![]()
